Russia is working on a state standard for local wines
The Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) is working on the creation of a state standard covering Russian wine products.
The wine industry in Russia
Until a few years ago, wine production in Russia was not popular. Experts say it was in collapse, but a sudden shift in this trend has been observed for some time. According to Rosstat data, Russian vineyards now occupy as many as 86.5 thousand. ha. Traditions and wine culture are gaining in importance. It is a dynamically developing market. There is even talk of a renewed variety of winemaking in Russia. The crops of local grape varieties are revitalized and regional wine farms are created.
Project based on "Guide"
According to the published information, when creating the document, it is planned to take into account the standards and regulations that have been developed and applied in the project "Russia's Wine Guide" based on the national standard for Russian wines.
It is worth mentioning that "Russia's Wine Guide" is a guide created by Roskachestvo together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture. Its fourth edition was released this year.
The latest study of Russian vineyards
This year's study was the largest ever conducted in terms of the number of participants. A commission composed of experts in the wine industry assessed as many as 610 wines from 47 producers in terms of 12 previously defined parameters. In addition, an audit of the vineyards themselves was also organized. Each of them has been assessed according to over 100 criteria, including the readiness to produce ecological products, which have been gaining recognition among consumers in recent years.
