GOST 33670-2015 standard on the conformity assessment of vehicles has entered into force

From July 1, 2021, the standard GOST 33670-2015 “Road vehicles, single. Examination and test methods for conformity assessment” is in force in the Russian Federation. The introduction of this standard is intended to combat the poor technical condition of vehicles on the roads, and thus improve road transport safety.

Examinations and tests in laboratories

According to the standard discussed in this article, cars will have to undergo full tests in a research laboratory in order to obtain the so-called SBKTS, i.e. Vehicle Safety Certificate. Checking the technical condition of vehicles only remotely, on the basis of the documents sent, will be prohibited from now on.

What is SBKTS?

SBKTS is a special document confirming that the construction of a car or other vehicle meets the requirements of the current safety standards. Without such a document, the vehicle cannot be used on the road, sold, leased, etc.

The necessity to obtain the SBKTS certificate has a legal basis. After receiving the document, information about this fact is entered in a special register. This minimizes the risk of forgery and allows you to check the authenticity of the certificate at any time.

The new standard = more road safety

The main purpose of adopting the GOST 33670-2015 standard is to prevent the placing on the market of cars that pose a threat to human life and health, and to limit the import of damaged cars.

Changes for modified and imported cars

The GOST 33670-2015 standard will apply to both used cars imported from abroad and modified vehicles operating in the territory of the Russian Federation. The authorities assured that for modified cars this is a temporary measure and a separate GOST standard will soon be developed for the evaluation of cars whose design has been changed.

Testing laboratories confirming compliance with the standard

Currently, there are 22 accredited research laboratories in Russia authorizing to perform works in accordance with this standard, as many as 10 of them operate in the Russian Far East, i.e. the eastern, Asian part of the country, where most of the imported cars are concentrated. Another 6 laboratories in the region are in the process of preparing to start operations.
