Rospotrebnadzor reminded of the requirements for clothing for children and adolescents

On the official website of the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare of the Russian Federation (Rospotrebnadzor), recommendations on safety requirements, labeling and confirmation of compliance of clothing for children and adolescents have been published.

Clothing for children and adolescents must meet certain requirements

Experts of the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare reminded that clothes intended for children and adolescents must meet certain hygiene requirements, be harmless to health, and be of high quality, including appropriately selected natural material.

These detailed safety requirements for children and teenagers' clothing are set out in the Technical Regulations TR CU 007/2011 of the Eurasian Economic Union "On the safety of products for children and adolescents". They include specific standards in the field of biological and chemical safety. Separate standards have been defined for each layer of clothing. For example, in the case of second-layer garments, the hygroscopicity should be at least 10%, the free formaldehyde content must not exceed 20 μg / g, and the color fastness and its change due to washing, friction and perspiration must be at least class 4 in 5-point scale.

The procedure for confirming the compliance of vlothes for children and baby

Before clothes intended for these age groups are allowed to be put on the market, they must undergo the procedure of confirming compliance with the requirements of the above-mentioned technical regulations. Pursuant to Art. 12 acceptable forms of confirmation of the conformity of clothing for children and adolescents are:

  • - state registration with subsequent declaration of conformity
  • - conformity certification
  • - declaration of conformity


Products for children under 3 years of age, such as knitted first layer tights and socks, first layer knitted and textile underwear and caps, are subject to state registration. Clothing that has passed the confirmation of conformity is marked with a uniform mark of circulation on the market.

Labeling clothes intended for children and adolescents

Rospotrebnadzor strongly advises consumers to pay attention to clothing labeling. The label should contain information about the type and content of natural and chemical fibers in the lining and the outer part of the product, the uniform mark of market circulation, rules of use and the date of production. At the consumer's request, the seller is obliged to provide a document confirming the clothing compliance with the requirements of the EAEU.
