GTIN and GLN identifiers- new requirement to register declarations in the EAEU

Pursuant to the Order of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation No. 478 of July 31, 2020, the procedure for registering the TR EAEU declaration has been approved. Therefore, from January 1, 2021, the applicant must provide the GLN and UNP / GTIN identifiers when applying for product registration. In the first place, these requirements were introduced for products imported from abroad.

Global Location Number

The new law has raised a lot of questions, so in the following article we explain what these numbers are and how they can be obtained.

UNP / GLN - these are the unique numbers of the company, its Global Location Number. The code consists of 13 characters and is used to identify the location of a specific legal entity, a specific manufacturer. The Global Location Number is a kind of access key to data about a business partner or location, for example: physical address, telephone and address details, banking details, type of location and other necessary information. At the beginning, the numbers are put in the country prefix - for Russia, this is a combination of digits 460-469.

Global Trade Item Number

GTIN is the Global Trade Item Number. It is an internationally unique product code that allows it to be identified by means of electronic devices such as scanners. Such a code has been assigned to almost every group of products and enables quick and convenient reading of information about a product, as well as tracking the production and commercial path of this product. The code can be assigned to the packaged product or service. The number consists of 8, 12, 13 or 14 characters. These numbers are used as an integral part of the barcode. The combination of black and white stripes on the product label is the EAN code, and underneath it are numeric symbols - these are GTINs.

Availability of codes

The press reports show that the customs services are already demanding that these codes be made available, but a draft regulation of the Ministry of Development is already being prepared - it is planned that the codes provided by applicants will be mandatory only if they are available for a concrete group of products.
