Transitional period for changes to the technical regulations for bottled drinking water
The Management Board of the Eurasian Economic Union is considering the introduction of a transitional period in connection with the adopted changes to the technical regulations TR EAEU 044/2017 "On the safety of bottled drinking water, including natural mineral water".
Scope of the regulations
The regulations TR EAEU 044/2017 precisely define the requirements for the production, storage, transport, sale and recycling of packaged drinking water. The purpose of this document is to protect the life and health of consumers and to prevent any misleadings as to the safety of packaged drinking water.
What changes will be introduced soon?
In the adopted amendments to the technical regulations TR EAEU 044/2017, a correction of the previously adopted value of the mass concentration of the biologically active component of boron is implemented and classified as a therapeutic natural mineral water. These changes are expected to enter into force on May 7, 2022.
Transition period until the end of December 2022
A transitional period is proposed in the draft procedure for introducing changes to the technical regulations. It is about releasing the production and the batch of water that does not comply with the provisions of the regulations into circulation until December 31, 2022. This would be a postponement of the original deadline imposed on producers.
What is the purpose of introducing a transitional period?
The introduction of the transitional period described above is intended to help the bottled water industry to adapt its business model to the new regulations. It will also enable smooth implementation of new legal requirements in force in the countries belonging to the Eurasian Economic Union by both producers and importers.
