Certification of playgrounds that are used in winter
In the Russian Federation, talks are currently underway on a special certification process for playgrounds that are intended for use during the winter period. This process is being worked on, among others, by the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Municipal Services and interested social organizations operating in this field.
The proposal came from the ministry
The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Communal Services of the Russian Federation, at the meeting of the Social Council Committee of the Minister of Construction for the Improvement of Public Space and Increasing the Comfort Level of the Urban Environment, put forward a proposal to introduce certification of playgrounds in terms of the safety of their use by children in winter.
Taking into account weather conditions in the certification process
According to the deputy minister, the introduction of the certification process for playgrounds, taking into account difficult winter weather conditions, as well as the development of new technologies that enable playing on such playgrounds without endangering the lives and health of the youngest, will avoid prohibiting the use of such places in winter.
The ban on the use of playgrounds come into force?
The deputy minister's mention of a potential ban was not accidental. Currently, a ban on the use of playgrounds in winter is being considered for those regions of the country with large amounts of snow, which makes slides, swings and other playground equipment unsafe. This ban could affect a large part of Russia, so alternative ways to ensure security are being developed, including through the appropriate certification process.
