Mandatory certification of electronic cigarettes will be introduced in Belarus
From April 1, 2022, nicotine-free products, including electronic cigarettes, will be subject to mandatory certification in the Republic of Belarus. This fact was reported by the Belarusian press service of State Standard.
Mandatory certificates of compliance
After the adoption of the changes, when trading electronic cigarettes and liquids for them on the Belarusian market, it will be obligatory to have a certificate of conformity of the National Conformity Assessment System of the Republic of Belarus. The certificates will be issued by the Belarusian State Metrology Institute and the Grodno Center for Standardization, Metrology and Certification. The only exception will be electronic cigarettes manufactured in Belarus or imported into the country before April 1 of the current year.
What information will be required on the packages?
These are not the only changes introduced this year regarding electronic cigarettes. Information requirements have also been introduced that will have to be indicated on consumer packaging of these goods, as well as documents confirming the safety of products. Moreover, the nicotine content of liquids will also be limited. It will be regulated by relevant documents and legal acts.
Electronic cigarettes in the Uniform Product List
It is worth noting that nicotine-containing products are included in the Uniform Product List, for which mandatory requirements of the Customs Union have been established. Nevertheless, the technical regulations for these products have not yet been adopted and are still under development, coordinated by Armenia. This activity aims to establish mandatory conformity assessment requirements in the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union. The requirements set out in the list will apply until the relevant EAEU technical regulations enter into force.
